Kate Spade Flicker Metallic Bon Shopper

I am about three months away from welcoming my perfect little fashionista/super-athlete/future CEO into the world and mama needs a diaper bag that doesn’t scream “I love pastels and changing diapers!” Considering this new bag is going to be traveling with me everywhere, I want one I ‘m not gonna get sick of and that goes with everything – without being boring. So today – because us pregos are moody and are entitled to change our minds every day – my favorite diaper bag is the kate spade Classic Noel Henry Baby Bag. It comes with a changing pad and is a great handbag even after the baby’s diaper days are long gone. Now, at $425 it may be a bit expensive for some, so I put it on my baby shower registry just in case someone is feeling generous!
There are some people that follow the trends of the celebrities in this crazy world of pop culture. Since working in a “bag” related industry I have now dubbed myself a “bag dork”. You catch yourself looking at all of the handbags (Pocketbook for your East-coasters) and wondering what brand they are carrying.  During the week, I do have my favorite television shows and catch myself looking at the accessories that the actors/actresses are wearing.

Now that the writer’s strike is over, most of all of the our favorite television shows are back on the air! YAY! Desperate Housewives is one of my favorite drama shows, you can never get enough of the gossiping girls on Wisteria Lane.louis vuitton bags

Fashionable diaper bags are everywhere and their are many many opportunities to find the exat one that fits your needs as well as personality.

I love, love the Baby Love Diaper Bag Collection by Isabella Fiore. It’s young, modern, fun and durable! But the absolute positive with this diaper bag is… that it looks like a regular Isabella Fiore handbag, this is great news for many years after the baby!

A great diaper bag is the perfect accessory for mothers and mothers to be!

THE Diaper Bag

HI Ladies! We originally didn’t mean for our oversized, super stylish GLADIOLA style to be a diaper bag- but our fans made it so! We have made the bag sturdier now and added pockets and a changing pad so that it’s perfect as a stylish and practical diaper bag! We have heard over and over again that the GLADIOLA makes moms feel like they are carrying a bag for their own personal style and not one for their child’s style. We just got in our Fall selections…

Seersucker forever

If Cern doesn’t destroy the planet(by accidentally creating a black hole), SF’sCordaroundsjust might. The two-man design team call themselves an “online clothing experiment.” And what a dangerous experiment it is. Like many scientists, they scoff at tradition and history and insist on defying (and defiling) the laws of nature with their laboratory-created abominations.Clearly mad, the Cordarounds guys have desecrated men’s fashion in the past by turning the laws of corduroy on their headwhen they unleashed horizontal walingon an unsuspecting public. And not even a whisper of outrage from theCorduroy Appreciation Club. Shame.That was bad enough news for the short men of America (all 50 million of us). We rely on vertical stripes to visually lengthen our poor, all-too-gravity-prone bodies. Vertical stripes are the bedrock of every Short Man Playbook out there. Without vertical stripes we’re lost. And luckily for us, vertical stripes have always been a common law of fashion. Until now.Cordarounds is again threatening to upset the natural balance of the universe.Urban Daddy reported:On the heels of their world-famous horizontal cords, Cordarounds is rolling out a khaki-striped seersucker version with ridges in horizontal rings all the way up and down your lower half. The fabric is the same narrow-striped cotton you know and love, but it’s twisted 90 degrees to leave you with 500 ventilating ridges between your waist and the sun-cooked pavement.OK, OK, maybe it’s not the end of the world. Maybe horizontal seersucker won’t catch on. My advice is to have a seat in the shade, grab a cool mint julep, and chill out.But just to be on the safe side, think about stocking up on some of these old-school, vertical-striped seersucker items.

what are you looking for in terms of fit kind of off the rack and what can you work with?

Well, most suits come in Short, Regular and Long. If I buy a Short, I’m usually OK with the length. I seem to have short arms, so I usually always have to have the sleeve length taken up. So what I’m always watching is: Where is the button placement on that sleeve? Is the tailor going to have enough to work with? Or if you’re really spending more you get working buttonholes. And also the fit through [the chest]. Usually the shoulders fit OK. And a man can usually judge that. But most men don’t realize a suit should sort of skim the body. You don’t want it to hug, but it shouldn’t hang like a box. You should have some shape once you’re in a suit. So a suit is something I would definitely always spend money on. A sport jacket, too. Every few years I seem to spend an absurd amount of money on a navy blue blazer. But you get a great navy blue blazer and you look phenomenal.

On my first trip to Europe, I commented to someone in our Italian office on how incredible Italian men dressed. And the woman in our office over there said, ‘That’s because Italian men would rather have two phenomenal sweaters than 10 so-so sweaters.’ And it’s that mentality: You want a few pieces that are special.

Sale bargains

New season stock is starting to hit the high street and the remains of sale rails are being shoved to the back like the embarassing relics they now are. If you are looking for a shiny satin jumpsuit then now is probably your moment. However if you prefer a more classic look, stick to the web: the great thing about online sale shopping is you can still find some genuine bargains without having to elbow your way through the hordes, only to find the perfect jeans … in the wrong size. Fashion Statement has been scouring our favourite online retailers for bargains for all. Be quick though – by this stage, sizes are limited and stock is low.

FS loves Mad Men more than Alexa Chung loves the schoolgirl look, more than Anna Wintour loves a Prada dress and kitten heels – more, even, than Grazia loves a Jennifer-Aniston-in-crisis story. Yes, we love it a LOT. So this week’s fashionistas are our favourite Man Men trio. On the left, the wonderful Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally Draper, aka an unfeasibly talented 10-year-old looking very pretty in a sweet frock. In the middle Elisabeth Moss, aka Peggy, escaping the shackles of her character’s wardrobe gloriously in a one-shouldered number and some perfect make-up-what-make-up? Lastly, Vincent Karthusier, or Pete, for looking like he rolled out of bed precisely 25 seconds before this picture was taken.

The Guccis: fashion’s most argumentative family?

This week’s amusing fashion news story brings bad tidings for Elisabetta Gucci, who is being sued by the Gucci Group for, essentially, being called Gucci. She is the great-grandaughter of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci, so it’s not like she isn’t one of those Guccis, plus she worked for the Gucci Group until 1995, but now she has had the temerity to plan a group of hotels which will be called Elisabetta Gucci Hotels. Shall we rearrange the words “freaks” and “control”? Has anyone ever used the word Gucci so many times in one paragraph before? Questions, questions.

The Gucci Group told WWD “Gucci wants to make clear that it has no relationship to Elisabetta Gucci Hotels and that it is not involved in any project whatsoever with Elisabetta Gucci Hotels.” FS is beginning to feel rather sorry for her now. Her managing director (of the hotels, we assume, not her personally) retorted that “Elisabetta Gucci is doing her job. She cannot cancel her name or her background. If she has a famous name or a famous background, that’s not her fault and we are not trying to use it as much.” FS finds itself rather intrigued by that last word. Simple misquote? Or Freudian slip? As much as what – or should we ask, whom?

Elisabetta should probably consider herself lucky to be facing a mere lawsuit, for the Gucci family have a notorious history of feuds, fights and somewhat darker affairs. Paolo Gucci was once the chief designer at the company, and the man who created the famous double ‘G’ logo. But he kept up a long-running trademark battle with the company after they fired him over his management practices. His father Aldo tried to stop him, so Paolo shopped him for tax evasion, which led to a prison sentence. Oh, and Paolo was imprisoned himself for failling to pay child support. Later, one of Paolo’s daughters and his ex-wife were also taken to court and banned from using the family name on the grounds that doing so “infringed and diluted” the Gucci trademark.

Coloured Handbags

This capacious Billy Bag will hold everything you need.  Don’t forget fashion handbags come in a wide range of great colours, for example, this berry red is such a great tone that even if red is not your colour you can team it with a black and grey outfit.

There is no doubt, even if you cannot wear a red dress, the colour red need not pass you by this autumn 2006.

Golds and purples are also a strong colours for Autumn 2006 and the purple bag in the header is from Bag Boutique and is an Emma Gordon design.\

On designer handbags, casual looks are mixed with luxury details often in the form of gold plated hardware attachments that can form the function once performed by jewellery worn on the neck or wrist.

Chain handles are used often on grab bags.  Decorative chain is also applied to the handbag body.  Cabochon stones decorate bag corners.  Studding is everywhere especially on distressed leathers. Gucci gold clutch bag and wristlet

Women’s Fashion Accessories are now ‘precious’ with hardware becoming an accessory to the accessory.  An example of bags of this type include this Gucci clutch evening bag shown right.  It is the latest fashion trend and has the functional addition of wristlet hardware – after all holding a clutch does put one’s other hand out of action.

On many other designer handbags, the accessory additions are just so OTT, but in this case, the wristlet is truly useful.  I find it the ultimate silliness to accessorize the accessory with extra charms and brooches.  Leave that to the consumer to think out for themselves with real personal items owned with love.

Shoulder bags with a chain strap are another look of this fall.  Some bead bags have long bugle beads and trailing fringes.

Gucci brand has been having a boom in sales in the Asia pacific region, with double digit growth globally. Gucci was founded in 1881 and so is 85 years old. Gucci’s Frida Gianni reworked the Hobo bag at Gucci to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Gucci House.

Other top brands for fashion accessories include Bottega Veneta with their handbags performing well.  Bottega Veneta is the most prestigious luxury brand of 2006 and is Gucci’s second main string to its bow.  Bottega Veneta is understated, but makes goods of the highest quality. Very Chic. They are famous for their woven leather distinctive tasteful bags. Such bags account for 83% of the Bottega revenue.

Bottega Veneta has a website and one section has a unit called Tomas’ Picks which is updated 6 times a year to match ready to wear collections. They have 540 styles, but what is online is more limited making it a more exclusive outlet.  One concept will be to produce handbags online that are not found at Bottega Veneta retailer properties.

Bottega Veneta has a reputation for incomparable quality. Its trademark recognisable understated fashion handbag is that of the interwoven leather style. Owned by the Gucci Group since February 2001. Tomas Maier, who trained in Paris, joined in June 2001. His shows have been highly acclaimed and he utilises fine materials such baby lizard and soft crocodile often adorned with further embellishment of embroidery or appliqué. The luxury products are available globally from a website designed to satisfy discerning clients

Other brands like YSL have had good sales of the Muse bag.  Recently LVMH has extended its stores to Abu Dhabi, UAE and Luxembourg and will soon be in Budapest. They are also set to open a Louis Vuitton outlet in Leeds UK this autumn 2006.

Women’s Fashion Handbag

We all know that women change their handbag styles often.  You don’t need to lose any weight to buy the perfect new handbag, nor do you need to embarrass yourself by squeezing into it in front of a helpful, but sneering assistant.  You can read more about selecting a designer women’s handbag from the 2006 bag pages.

This fall the new trend of a clutch bag will update evening looks.  Another must have fashion accessory is a tiny bag or minaudière like the ultra small designer evening gold bag.  See Blugirl evening bag image courtesy of IFTF.Womens handbag Barbara Bui fur bag

Gold evening bag from prettyballerinas.comThis small inexpensive evening gold bag is from prettyballerinas.com and would go well with the many pretty ballerina shoes they have in gold tones.

Marks and Spencer Midnight Barrel Bag available for Christmas - T08 6026 at £85This Marks and Spencer gold bag called Midnight (available for Christmas) is a large barrel bag, it would be perfect for a change of clothes when out and about in the evening whilst having to stay on overnight. This barrel bag is also be available in cream, silver and black.

The new film ‘Snakes on a Plane’ shows the complete hype of snakeskin handbags, belts, wallets, purses, shoes and bangles all in reptilian skins.  This may have an influence on purchasers of fashion accessories, but the importance of the film in relation to the trend seems over hyped to me.  Gucci Hobo fur bag

Exotic leathers or reptilian skins have been with us for some time and still captures the textures of fall.  These handbags come in either real or faux impressed patterns with a high glaze.

Fur bags are a newer use of fur and if you can’t wear the bulk that the more voluminous looks currently give then try the bulky fur bag.

Animal print bag from DebenhamsFar right is a Gucci Hobo fur bag.

Animal print shoes and fashion handbags abound.  These give an instant update without creating too much of a ‘Bet Lynch’ barmaid effect, as these prints in nasty fabrics sometimes do.  Left is an animal print bag from the autumn 2006 range, image courtesy .

I recently treated myself to a Russell and Bromley small cute suede leopard print bag (£145) with partial gilt link chain in its Linky style.  It’s a perfect expensive looking small boxy shaped bag for day or as an evening bag and still holds a few essentials.  It does not have that weighed down look some of the current super sized bags have and which can look ludicrous with evening wear.  Leopard print looks terrific with black or gold.   With leopard or any animal print choose the bag material carefully to avoid the bag looking cheap.

Brighter Colours

But those who like more uplift in their wardrobe will always go for brighter colours, and no retailer can afford to lose those customers either. In autumn 2009 – Winter 2010, berry colours and the tones of damsons, blueberries, purple, aubergine, burgundy through to raspberry red create an important colour spectrum for most collections.

Nicole Farhi is one designer who has toyed with both the fullness of the top shoulder area and lower cuff of the sleeve. This alpaca and wool raspberry coat right from her Autumn 2009 – Winter 2010 collections focuses on a dramatic cuff shape giving the coat an air of the highwayman.

I especially love casual pieces and knitwear by Nicole Farhi finding them relaxed. Yet the quality yams used and the resultant great drape of the knits ensure they are always smart to wear whatever the occasion.

Bright colours in strong jewel colours are sure to brighten up dull winter days, and if you prefer to invest in a neutral toned coat the outlay of a brightly coloured cardigan or tunic as above may be easier on your budget.  Boyfriend cardigans in bright pops of colour are just the job to cheer up an otherwise dull mix of basic pants and shirt.

Overall note how there is more assortment in knitwear with both long and short knits at most shops.  In mass market terms, look out for boyfriend cardigans or the waterfall long alternative.  Aran style cable knits, fine knits, striped pieces, asymmetric styles, batwing or dropped sleeves, leg-of-mutton sleeves, cowl necklines and coat cardigans, all help to generate vast array.

Cowl necklines, either constructed, as part of a knitwear piece, or added as a separate accessory give that functional and fashionable layered look. Many cowls are so oversized they have become snoods.

This boyfriend cardigan is by Burberry and the purple tone hot on trends since purple is possibly the most important fashion colour this autumn 2009 Winter 2010.

Longer length cardigans are a welcome alternative to more formal coats.  Boyfriend cardigans in neutral tones can diffuse the strength of some overpowering prints. Long skinny knit silhouettes exist side by side with bulkier layered looks that are more textural.

coats

Invest and impress, chose a covetable coat in cream, camel, grey, indigo, aubergine purple or plum tone.  Some of the finest investment pieces are the cashmere coats at Max Mara, Jaeger, Dior, Aquascutum, Crombie and Martin Grant at Harvey Nichols.

Buying basic neutrals, with a good eye to the current silhouette, can stretch a wardrobe budget over several seasons. From an image planning figure improving point of view, wearing matching colours top and bottom streamlines the silhouette too.Jill Sander Grey Coat - AW09. Harvey Nichols.

If camel drains you, it may be because it does not suit your complexion. Camel looks terrific on honey blondes and with peaches and cream skin of the ‘Spring’ colour personality, but camel less good on dark brunettes. Expensive tones of shell pink blush tones are still as desirable as they were for spring with many shops stocking this delicate colouration which can suit brunettes.

Dark haired women, and those who have gone white or silver grey, often look better in charcoal greys through to the softest silver. If you are a raven haired beauty opt instead for rich grey garments and clear jewel colours, like the coats below leaving the soft golden tones to your blonder friends.

Chanel also have some tweedy cropped semi-fitted jackets with sharp shoulders.  The use of tweed with a sharper jacket or coat profile gives tweed a modern edge bringing it bang up to date for Winter 2010.

YSL featured an investment dressing monochrome autumn palette of grey, more grey, charcoal black and white. YSL showed a severe, but subtly sophisticated sleek wardrobe in tune with the concept of dwindling bank balances.

In a recession, where even the rich are cutting back, bread and butter basic colourways such as grey or stone, black and monochrome contribute to replacement product safe purchases. They also mean a possible later buys of more vibrant accessories that uplift these basic neutral pieces.
